This is a custom 7-string Reichardt Guitar. The body is book matched 5A Flamed Honduran Mahogany. The top is an insane example of Black and White Ebony(BW). BW Ebony is from Laos and is imported into the United States by very few people and it is rare in large billets. Drying BW Ebony is extremely hard due to the differing densities of the tan and black streaking in the wood. It is prone to cracking and splitting in the very dense black ebony, making it one reason that many builders do not use it often. I was lucky to get a large billet of it and get several tops of it.
Built with contemporary back and front body carves for comfort given the extended nature of the 7-string neck. The Birdseye Maple neck adds snap to the guitar with a matching BW Ebony Fretboard for a very smooth tone. BW Ebony is not as percussive as West African Ebony but it has a smooth mid-range that adds to the tone of the Birdseye Maple Neck. Adam Bath at Elysian Guitars/Pickups hand wound a custom set of his Contemporary High Gain Humbuckers with ceramic magnets and matching Black and White Ebony bobbins special for the exclusive one of a kind build.
